Erin Lee Emelander (previously Fisher) was born and raised in Holland, Michigan. After graduating from West Ottawa High School, she attended Grand Valley State University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science with an emphasis on Criminal and Abnormal Psychology. She received her Juris Doctorate with honors from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2012. Mrs. Emelander was active in mock trial and assisted students with disabilities as a professional note taker and research assistant for Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Mrs. Emelander studied criminal law abroad in Christchurch, New Zealand and in Melbourne, Australia in 2010. To continue her legal education after graduation Mrs. Emelander has attended numerous Institute of Continuing Learning (ICLE) seminars focusing on family law, wills and estates, updates in criminal law, small firm practice, property law and bar leadership.

 

Mrs. Emelander began her legal career assisting with trial preparation as an intern for a cold case murder in the Ottawa County Prosecutor's Office where she utilized her degree in Behavioral Science and Criminal Psychology to assist the Prosecutors in reviewing decades-old evidence in preparation for trial. Also during law school, Mrs. Emelander worked with  Varnum Law Firm in Grand Rapids as a E-discovery Litigation Assistant and Trial Coordinator. At Varnum she performed e-discovery, case management, review, project coordination and legal research for attorneys who were in the practice of: oil and gas law, family, criminal, contract, estate planning, and employment.

 

After graduating from Cooley Law School, she accepted a position as the Chief Assistant Prosecutor for the Oceana County Prosecutor's Office, this experience has assisted her strategy and approach as a defense attorney by giving her a unique and inside look at how prosecution interprets the law, decides on criminal charges and prosecutes their cases. Prior to becoming an Attorney with Emelander Law Firm, P.C., she practiced as an Associate Attorney with Springstead Law Offices, P.C. in Hart, Michigan where she passionately and successfully advocated for her clients in the areas of criminal defense, family law, consitutional law, driver's license restorations, juvenile law and contract disputes. She was also active in the Hart City Council through her employment with Springstead Law Offices, P.C. as the City Attorney. 

 

Mrs. Emelander enjoys supporting and being active in the community and has coordinated large events, such as Hart Sparks this past July for the Hart Main Street Board. She has been the President of the Oceana/Newaygo Bar Association for the past three years. Mrs. Emelander was also involved in the area's agricultural industry as the National Asparagus Queen 1st Runner-Up in 2014/2015, where she was responsible for educating the public and state law makers about asparagus and its financial impact and importance to the local agriculture industry and its agricultural culture.

 

Mrs. Emelander was recently appointed by her peers in the legal community to the State Bar of Michigan Law and the Media Committee where she will develop and support programs that promote a positive relationship between the legal community and the media, focusing on accuracy in the reporting of news concerning the law.

 

In September 2015, Mrs. Emelander relocated to Newaygo, Michigan to join Mr. Emelander at his growing law practice, Emelander Law Firm, P.C. Together, they zealously represent and advocate for the rights of their clients.

 

Mrs. Emelander is admitted to practice in the state courts of Michigan. She is admitted to practice in the Western District Federal Court of Michigan and plans to take the Florida Bar Exam.

Ms. Fisher planned this event for the July 4th holiday. It involved coordinating a fireworks display, a band named "Potato Moon", kids events, and even a dunk tank! Over 5000 attended this event in Hart, Michigan. In this photo she announces the band before the concert on Hart Lake begins.
